Sri Lankan Yellow Rice is a popular rice dish made during all festival gatherings or any party. It is served with Chicken Curry or even Dhal Curry makes a wonderful side dish for this.

When I had planned a meal, I was keen to make this recipe from mysrilankanrecipe site that seems to be popularly served on all festival occasions. It is also called as Khara Bath, though the rice is not spicy at all. Pandan Leaves are used to make this dish and I went shopping to check it. Unfortunately, nobody knew about it and I ended up using Bay leaf.

This aromatic leaf reminds us much of our own colour rice or Masala Annam. The only thing I skipped doing was to garnish with raisins as Hubby Dear won't like it. With Dhal Curry this surely made a delicious combination.

Valli, if my memory is correct, kewra water is prepared from pandan leaves or flowers. Maybe you could use kewra water as a substitute for pandan leaves. You gave us a preview of today's post in your last one. Rice looks absolutely delicious.

I have not explored Sri Lankan cuisine and so no clue about availability of pandan leaves in our area. But the rice cooked in coconut milk is always welcome. The fried onion topping is a major plus here!

Am sure this yellow rice will definitely replace our Indian pulaos if we want to dish out something new from the usual one. Lovely rice dish there.

Valli, this rice looks so flavorful and I am really eager to see how the flavors would be with the Pandan leaves. I have never heard of it, but after reading yours and Mir's post, I am tempted to find it.

The yellow rice is so flavorful, especially with that coconut milk... We have pandan here but it comes in a packet, and the main reason why I didn't buy is I may end up throwing more of it... 🙁 I am sure it would add a lovely dimension to this simple rice dish...
