Focaccia is an Italian flat leavened oven-baked bread. It is quite similar in style and texture to pizza; and if you top it with similar toppings, it will tastes just like a pizza. Learn to make this Easiest Focaccia Bread Recipe.

So much so that in in some places, it is called "pizza bianca" (“white pizza”). This recipe is so simple that you can easily make it in your kitchen!

    Focaccia Bread Recipe

This is the Easiest Focaccia Bread Recipe you can find. I made with just 200 grams and it was not just enough. I had previously made this Cheesy Onion Mini Focaccia, Caramelized Onion & Roasted Garlic Focaccia, but guess its been such a long time back that kids didn't remember it at all.

Now that this bread got over so quickly I will have to bake it again tomorrow.

I am happy I managed to bake this bread. Its the penultimate to the Bake-a-thon 2021. Yesterday's Milk Bread is an exceptional brad to bake as well.

Ingredients used to make this bread

I have used All Purpose flour to make this bread. If you have access to bread flour, go ahead use it.

Milk: Use warm water if you want to make this vegan. I used milk and it surely made the bread very soft.

How to get the dough ready for Focaccia

    Making the tangzhong mix

In a pan add milk and flour together. Whisk it on medium flame till you get a thick slurry. Make sure there no lumps. Keep it aside for cooling.
    Getting the dough ready
Take a mixing bowl, add all purpose flour and salt and keep then aside.
Since I am using instant active yeast, I warmed the milk and added the yeast, sugar, gave a quick stir and added to the flour.
Else if you are using dried yeast, you will have to proof it by letting it rest for 10 minutes in warm water/milk to activate the yeast.

Warm the milk to knead the flour together, mix the tangzhong mix, yeast mix, salt together and knead well.
Transfer to a working top, start kneading with stretch and fold method, and add oil as required to get a smooth dough.

Oil the bowl and place the dough in it. Let it rest in the oven for 1.5 hours or until it doubles.
Once it is doubled, punch down the dough, grease the baking tray with oil.
Stretch the dough to cover the tray completely.
Pour olive oil liberally over the top.

    Second Rise
Keep it aside for the second rise
I kept it warm mode and it takes about 30 minutes for the second rise.
Remove again, sprinkle the mixed herbs all over on the top.

    Baking the bread.
Preheat the oven to 200 C and bake for 20 minutes.
When done, brush the top with soft butter.
Serve with soup or enjoy as such!

Once your bread is baked, you can brush the top with butter for the top to get soft.

You can keep it aside with a loose cloth covering it for the bread to cool down. The bottom is so soft that you won't stop with one piece!

    Substitutions to make this Vegan!

If you don't want to use milk, you can use warm water to knead the dough. This makes this a Vegan bread and you can enjoy it much.

    Variations you can create

Adding roasted vegetables on top, takes this bread to a different level!

Though traditionally the dough doesn't' have anything added, you can always add herbs or veggies in it as well before the second rise.

You can bake it as buns as well if you choose too.

Equipment you will need to bake this bread

You can easily knead the dough with yours. So a mixing bowl is a must.

I used a borosil square baking tray that makes it easy handle.

    Storage really!

With the way baked bread gets over in seconds in my home, I really don't know how long this will stay good.

However, maybe sometime I will check it.

Expert Tips for this Easiest Focaccia Bread Recipe

In warm and hot climate, first and second rise can be quite quick. However, I mostly heat my oven, at times use microwave mode or even otg to heat the oven up. Keep it inside for a quick rise.

So you can easily get your bakes done faster.
