Dal Khichdi is a delicious Khichdi made with Masoor dal and a handful of spices and regular vegetables. This surely makes an awesome quick meal.

This was the first Khichdi I had made in this series and it was so satisfying. Though I always think I should include Khichdi more in our menu, somehow it gets missed and I always keep wondering what to make if it was just us for dinner.

Memories of Khichdis come when I think of our BM#25 Meet we had in Ahmedabad. PJ’s and Nandini’s boys were just eleven months and Vaishali kept ordering Khichdi from her Kitchen. The funny part was, we kept eating it off as we found it so delicious and the kids were not so fond of it.

That reminded me to ask Vaishali for the recipe and I made the Khichdi many years later. Apart from this one, I have the Bihari Khichdi and the Manipuri Khichdi. Only after reading on it had, I realized that this khichdi was the same as our Ven Pongal with different spices added.

So this festival when we had included Khichdi as part of the series, I wanted to make sure I make a handful of these as Hubby Dear was asking me to introduce this as a regular menu. Today’s Khichdi prompted me to assert that we would surely love it.

The day I made it, Hubby dear was out for dinner and Kids had something else. So I had planned it only for Amma and myself. As I was cooking it, everybody came in and asked what was that delicious aroma that was coming out. On hearing it, the kids politely said I could enjoy it myself. Of course, we enjoyed it and Hubby Dear said I was going to repeat it again as he missed it.

Since this first one, I have made a few more based on the alphabetically need and all the versions have been a hit. I have also made sure I include as many different lentils as possible to try this dish.

A filling, nutritious meal and quick to put together. Most of the khichdis follow this baic version and I too have recently fallen in love with some khichdis that I tried for this BM.

Masoor daal Khichadi is new to me , it sounds delicious and I like all the herbs and spices in it . Any Khichadi served with a dollop of ghee is so blissful .

Nostalgic post for you valli... Guess what, initially, I used call kichadi as masala ven pongal. But never knew the zillion variations. This version of yours with masoor dal sounds so yum.

Though I have heard about the incident, I am really sad to have missed it on first meet. Thiskichdi with masoor dal looks so yum Valli. With just papad or pickle to the side this would make an amazing meal.
