    Quinoa Biryani is a fusion biryani made with Quinoa and mixed vegetables with biryani masala and spices. This surely tastes wonderful and makes a filling meal.

    For Q, I decided I would make Quinoa Biryani as I still had the Quinoa that Priya had given me some years back. Can you imagine how silly I sound as I had saved it up to make all dishes with Q. Anyway this quick biryani with Quinoa was an interesting fusion dish. The mixed vegetables and spices surely made this a wholesome meal.

    I only made it with one cup as I wasn't sure if everybody would like it. However, Athamma and Amma liked it as it surely had a nutty texture and almost felt like a salad. I boiled it in a saucepan with a 1:2 ratio of water. If you are cooking it in the pressure cooker, you should take care to check if it's enough.

    Quinoa Biryani | How to make Quinoa Vegetable Biryani

    Cooking the Quinoa:

    Wash and soak the Quinoa for 15 mins.
    Bring the water to boil in a saucepan and when it starts rolling boil, add the drained Quinoa.
    Simmer and cook it covered till done. This takes about 10 mins.
    Since I added just enough water for this to get cooked, take care to fluff in intervals.

    Prep the Vegetables

    During the time you soak the Quinoa, you can prep the vegetables and microwave for 10 mins or till done.

    Making the Quinoa Biryani

    In a pan, heat the oil and ghee, temper with the whole spices.
    Add onion julienne, slit green chilies, and ginger-garlic paste.
    Saute on high till the onions are done.
    Now add the vegetables and continue cooking on high till the water is all evaporated.
    Add the curds, biryani masala, garam masala and combine well.
    When the whole mix gets dry, add the cooked quinoa and mix well.
    Cover and keep it on low flame for few mins.
    Fluff and serve with onion raitha.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup Quinoa
    • 2 cups Water
    • 1 cup Mixed Vegetables (potato, beans, carrot)
    • 1/2 cup Onion
    • 1 tsp Curds
    • 1/2 tsp Ginger Garlic paste
    • 2 Green Chillies
    • 1 inch Cinnamon
    • 2 Cardamom
    • 2 Cloves
    • 1 Bay Leaf
    • 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
    • Handful Mint Leaves
    • Handful Coriander Leaves
    • 1/2 tsp Biryani Masala
    • 1/4 tsp Garam Masala
    • 1 tsp Lemon juice
    • Salt to taste
    • 1 tsp Cooking Oil
    • 2 tsp Ghee

      Talk of storing ! My Frig is always overloaded , but that’s how we bloggers are .
      The quinoa Khichadi looks absolutely fantastic , and the pics look fabulous . Quinoa is a international taste so it gets hard for some to adapt to the taste , but glad the elders enjoyed .

      I love to stock up ingredients. I have to clean my pantry regularly if not it becomes unmanageable. 😉 Quinoa biryani looks delicious and I remember making it for 2016 BM. Time flies.

      Quinoa biryani with biryani masala sounds so flavourful; I love quinoa, it's light on stomach and nutritious, a very good substitute for rice. too made Quiona pulao a milder version then biryani..

      haha, as a food blogger you can do that. You can save some recipes to be used later when apt. I love that colourful bowl of quinoa biryani, so so tempting. You have done 100 perc justice to the quinoa.
