Kuthravaali Puli Sadam ~ Day 8

For the Rice

  • 1/2 cup Barnyard Millet / Kuthravaali
  • 1 cup Water
  • A Pinch Salt

For the Tamarind Pulp

  • 2 tbsp Tamarind Extract
  • 1 tsp Cooking Oil
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • Handful Peanuts
  • Handful Cashews
  • 3 to 4 Dry Red Chillies
  • Salt to taste


Cooking the Millet

  • Wash and soak the millet for 30 mins.
  • Bring the water to boil and add the drained millet.
  • Simmer and cook till done.
  • Spread on a plate for the rice to separate.

Making the Tamarind Extract

  • Soak the tamarind and extract the pulp.
  • Heat a kadai with oil, add all the tempering ingredients.
  • Then add the tamarind extract and bring to boil.
  • Add salt and simmer till the extract gets thick like paste.
  • For making the rice, add the dried rice to the above mix and combine well.
  • Offer as Neivedyam and partake.
