Almond Halwa | How to make Badam Halwa

Badam Halwa is a rich Indian Sweet made with a smooth paste of Almond or Badam with sugar. While the traditional method is quite labour intensive, this microwave method gets you the same taste and texture in 15 minutes of microwave cooking.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Almond / Badam
  • 1.5 cup Sugar
  • 1 cup Milk +1 tbsp
  • Handful Cashews
  • Handful Almonds
  • 2 tsp Ghee
  • Few Strands Saffron
  • 1 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  • Soak the saffron strands in a bowl with 1 tbsp milk.
  • In a microwave safe bowl, take 1 cup of water and microwave for 1 min. Soak almonds in it for 10 mins. Peel off the skin. Heat the milk for saffron for 1/2 min.
  • First run the almonds in the mixer. When you get a coarse powder, remove a tsp and grind the rest with milk to get a smooth paste.
  • In a microwave safe bowl take the ghee, add the nuts, microwave for 1 min. Remove the nuts.
  • In the same bowl, take the almond paste, soaked saffron along with milk, sugar and the coarse almond power.
  • Micro for 10 mins, check in intervals of 2 - 4 minutes and keep stirring. You will get a good thick consistency which is more of a barfi and between a halwa.
  • Finally mix in the roasted nuts.
