Samai Elumichai Sadam, Kondakadalai Sundal ~ Day 3

Samai Elumichai Sadam is the millet version of lemon rice made with Little Millet. This is prepared the same way as you would with regular Rice.

Ingredients

For the Rice

  • 1 cup Little Millet / Samai
  • 2 tsp Lemon juice
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups Water

For Tempering

  • 1 tbsp Chana Dal / Bengal Gram
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • Handful Ground Nuts
  • Handful Cashew Nuts
  • 3 to 4 Green Chillies
  • Handful Curry Leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder

Instructions

Cooking the Samai

  • Soak rice for 30 mins. Bring a pan with water to a rolling boil.
  • Add the drained Samai, add salt and simmer till the samai is cooked. Allow it to cool down.
  • Extract the juice from the lemon.

Making the Lemon rice

  • Heat oil in a pan, add all seasoning items, fry till they are light brown in colour. Add Turmeric and salt as per taste.
  • Now add the cooked samai and add the lemon juice over it and combine everything again.
  • Serve as Neivedyam and partake.
