Sunnundalu is a famous Andhra Laddoos. I have always remembered eating this special sweet from childhood. Urad dal is very healthy and often made as this sweet preparation and forms part of many festivals and poojas.

So imagine combining the goodness of Urad dal with that of Flax Seeds. We have recently started including Flax Seeds in our diet and Daddy has asked Amma to ensure their diet has this ingredient included in some form or the other. While they have tried using the powder in their rotis, chutneys, and podis, I think these laddoos are the best form that I enjoyed.

Surprisingly even with being the major part of the measurement in this laddoo, one can't feel the taste. So this will suit those who are trying to get used to these seeds.

    Flaxseeds Sunnundalu

    Ingredients Needed:

    Flaxseeds Seeds - 1 cup
    Urad Dal - 1/2 cup
    Jaggery, grated - 1 cup
    Fried Gram - fistful
Ghee - 2 to 3 tbsp (can increase as needed)

    How to make the Laddoos

Dry roast the flax seeds till it starts crackling. Remove and let it cool. Similarly dry roast the Urad dal.

Once the dals are cooled down, grind to a fine powder. Grind the fried gram as well.

Take all the powdered dals in a bowl, along with grated jaggery. Slowly add the melted ghee and try to gather as balls.

Add as much ghee as required to hold the shape.

    Notes:

Roasted nuts can also be added to the laddo before shaping.

I find flax meal flavor very strong when used as a star ingredient in any recipe. However this version makes them traditional version healthier.
