Hope you all had a wonderful Ganesh Pooja at home! We had a good pooja and I was able to finish before noon and even went for work. Hubby dear went to get Ganesh Idol along with the boys, while I was making the neivedyam and Konda was helping Amma.

I was planning to keep it simple, however, I just couldn't keep away and ended up making Poli as always along with Vella Sundal, Idli, then two different prasadam this time. One was the Poricha Modakam, which I came to know during the Ganapathi Homam we did. While the previous poricha modakamthat I made, was made with rice flour dough, I even made it with maida dough.

The version I made today is also supposed to be made during the Ganapati Homam, this one with ground moong dal powder along with jaggery and coconut.

    Poricha Modakam | Poricha Kozhukattai
    Ingredients Needed:

    For the outer dough
Either Wheat flour / Maida - 1 cup
    Pinch of salt
Water required to make a thick batter

    For the Stuffing
Yellow Split Moong Dal - 3/4 cup
    Grated Coconut - 1/2 cup
    Jaggery - 1/2 cup

    How to make Poricha Modakam

In a bowl, mix the flour, salt with little water to make a thick batter. Keep it aside
    For the stuffing
Dry roast the moong dal and allow it to cool down. Then powder it well.
In a nonstick pan, heat jaggery, grated coconut, and powdered moong dal. Mix well and continue cooking till the mixture comes together.
Cook till it becomes a little thick and you can handle it.
Heat the oil in a Kadai.
When you are ready to make it, make small balls of the stuffing, drop it into the thick batter, and roll on all sides.
With a spoon, remove the rolled balls, drop them into the hot oil. Cook on all sides and drain out.
Offer to God as Neivedyam before you eat.

    Notes:
The batter has to be really thick. You can mix the stuffing with help of a spoon, you will be able to manage better.
Make sure you don't let the stuffing spread, else you will have that covering out the next batches.

Belated Vinayaka Chavithi wishes to you and your family Valli. These modakam look new to me, but seem simple enough to try. Will try these some time.
