Poha Idli is an instant breakfast dish that you can make for your busy mornings. If you are fond of Idlis, then this variety is something you surely must try.

When you have excess aval or poha on hand, what do you want to make with it? Well, the aval upma is the easy answer and if you are bored eating the same upma, then this instant Idli is something you can surely make.

For the second day of Platters, I wanted to make an Idli Platter, because Idlis are easy to make and with some instant versions, you can easily get all the varieties on the table quickly.

I made this for the elders at home for a Saturday dinner. Though I have tagged it as Breakfast Platter, this platter works best both as Breakfast or as dinner.

I have always been very fond of trying out different Idli varieties as I already have a huge collection of Idli Varieties
Check out the Idli Varieties collection on Spice your Life!

We enjoyed the variety of Idlis on the plate served with Coconut Chutney, Sambar, and Brinjal Gosthu. We mostly make Medu Vada along with Idlis at least once a month, so for a change, we made Urad Bonda. To complete the whole meal with a sweet, I made Chow Chow Halwa.

This Poha Idli is the day 2 dish from the Idli Platter that I made as part of the BM#116 Thalis & Platters. Check what I have for Platters for Kids Day 2 on SYL.

I have used a thick variety of Beaten Rice for this Idli. I mostly find that we need to rinse in the water a couple of times before using it.
So wash it well and then soak the poha in curds. Drain the water and mash it nicely using a spoon.
Add idli Rava, curds and mix well. Add water slowly to get the idli consistency.
Mix well and let it rest for 15 mins. By this time, Rava would have absorbed all the water.
Add a little more water if required.
Finally, add salt to taste. Just before steaming add the Eno and give a quick stir.
If you want, you can the baking soda as well instead of Eno Fruit salt. Just make sure you don’t stir too much.
Grease the idli molds with ghee/oil, if you want, you can place cashews on the plate and then pour a ladleful of batter
Fill the idli steamer with water and place the filled plates to be steamed for 8 to 10 mins. Let it rest for a few minutes before you remove it.
Serve hot with a side dish of your choice.

I make it similarly but decorating with cashews is a nice touch. And I have to try that brinjal gravy from your platter, sounds like it pairs well with south Indian breakfast dishes.

I have a big stock of these pohas that I want to use and the idlis with them look so nice ! Soft and fluffy .
When you say idli rawa - it is fine rice and urad dal mix or just rice rawa ? I have never used these rawas , will have to check in the market .

Idli rawa is only rice, texture looks more like bigger grains of semolina. When you use this Idli rawa, you don't have to soak it for long.

Love this version of instant idli. I have this recipe written down somewhere but never got to making it. Now I can refer to this post instead of looking for my notes 🙂

Instant version of Poha idli sounds nice. I do not keep idli rava much but , I am tempted to try this now as looking for more and more healthy breakfast options.
