We are starting the fourth week of BM#61 and this week I will be sharing 3 Indian Sweets or Mithai. While I am not a great sweet lover, I like my sweet to be sweet. I also love the concept of gathering all sorts of sweets or for that matter, any category. So one such one was my attempt at putting together, Halwa 101. I have about 45 different halwas cooked, well 101 is just a number right!
Today's recipe is an attempt at making yet another halwa at home. A few months back I had made Homemade Dulce De Leche and tried using it in various dishes. Still, I had about half a tin lying around and didn't want to eat it as such. I remembered Suma sharing a palkova long back and I had also made a palkova with milk in Microwave. So wanted to make a palkova using this Dulce De Leche.
Khova is a  reduced milk solid without sugar. Palkova is reduced milk solids with sugar. While we also get another version that's brown in colour called the Therattipal, which is exactly the same, yet looks brownish and tastes slightly sour. That's because as the milk solids are cooked, curds/ yogurt is added to curdle the solids, and later sugar and ghee is added. How divine does this sound!
Well, I used the same concept and used Dulce De Leche, which actually tastes like palvoka to me, along with little condensed milk to make this halwa.
I am clear on certain terms and would never interchange. Halwa to me is gooey, has to be spooned, while barfi is set and can be sliced. So this is halwa in my terminology and joins the Halwa 101 team!
    Microwave Palkova

    Ingredients Needed:

Dulce De Leche - 3/4 tin
    Condensed Milk - 3 tbsp
    Ghee - 1 tbsp
    Curds - 2 tbsp

How to make Palkova in Microwave

In a microwave-safe bowl, take all the ingredients together. No need to stir, microwave for 5 mins. Take out and stir a couple of times.

MW again for 2 mins. The texture will be soft and grainy, do not worry, it becomes set when you leave it aside for 10 mins.

I just made the traditional Tharattipal last week for my lo's Tamil birthday and I stood there and stirred it for 3 whole hours. This looks just like our traditional one and so easy to make. I am definitely trying this version soon 🙂
