Chilakada Dumpa Halwa is a delicious halwa made with Sweet Potato. While the sweet potato is sweet on its own, making it into a halwa gives you a sinful dessert to enjoy!

Sweet Potato is called Shakarkandi in Hindi, Chilakada dumpa in Telugu, Ranga alur in Bengali and is a root vegetable mostly eaten just boiled. However, there are so many other interesting dishes made with sweet potato.

In Chettinad, they make a spicy dry saute that can be enjoyed as a snack as well. We have the Shakarkandi Chat and some make a savory puttu too. When I came across this halwa, I thought I could do it for my Halwa series.

While we often get this for regular snacks, I have only tried some specific dishes with this root vegetable and this is the first time I am trying out a halwa. In my previous Halwa series, I had made Potato halwa which nobody was able to identify.

Whenever I eat this sweet potato, I mostly add sugar to it and eat. So I knew the halwa surely will taste something similar. In fact, Hubby dear asked if I was going to just mix sugar with boiled ones and call it halwa.

Since I was making with just one cup, it only takes just about 10 mins time to cook. He liked it and said it surely tastes different and very delicious. Another way of enjoying Sweet Potato as this Sakkaravalli Kizhangu Poriyal.

So we have Chilakada Dumpa Halwa for day 6, in this Halwa series that I have been doing for the BM#104 Sweets and Snacks, whereas it was a delicious traditional sweet in Spice your Life!

One of the most delicious halwas ! We used to make the sweet potato Halwa for my father in law , and practically every second day ! It tastes really really very good , though it’s pretty heavy . Yours has come out perfect ! You could try adding some saffron the next time you make, the flavour really gets enhanced .

I had seen Chandana's post before and the picture was captivating. Seems to be a quick and yummy halwa. Growing up, we used to eat cooked sweet potato slices with sugar sprinkled as your husband mentioned. 🙂

Yum Yum..... I guess we need to have a separate theme for halwas in our regular marathon. There are so many varieties i must say. Halwa looks too good Valli.

Wow! Sounds very yummy. I have tried a laddu of sorts with sweet potato but these days my kids want a spicy fry 🙂 I agree with Vaishali that kesar will elevate the halwa but I understand in the rush to finish I also overlook certain exotic elements.
